Indian Day celebration

The kids had a blast celebrating the indian day!!!!!!

Indian Day (also known as Native Day; in Portuguese known as Dia do Índio), was created by the President Getulio Vargas by a decree law in 1943, and recalls the day (April 19) in 1940, in which several indigenous leaderships of the Americas decided to attend the First Inter-American Indian Congress, held in Mexico.[1]
Map of indigenous reserves in Brazil.
Nowadays most part of the cities does not celebrate the date, however it is very common for schoolchildren across Brazil to dress up like Natives and visit Museums to learn more about the first Brazilians.[2] It is common to see celebrations in states with relatively huge indigenous population, such as Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Goiás, Rondônia and Amazonas

Hello, my name is Karla Normington. I am from Brasil and live in Portland since June, 2007. In the past I have worked as an assistant in a daycare and Nanny. I have great references. These responsibilities included:

    * Supervision of infants, toddlers, and school age children
    * Planning and implementing creative activities
    * Setting up play dates
    * Driving children to and from school and other activities
    * Providing a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment
    * Attending to physical and emotional needs of children
    * Helping children with daily routines such as toileting, dressing, eating, bathing and sleeping

    *Cooking healthy Brazilian/American meals
    *CPR/ First AID certification
    *Food handle

*Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse Neglect training

After working for years as a Nanny I decided to open my in home day care that will be running for me . The day care will offer full- and part-time enrollment. . We are a full Portuguese immersion program. All meals and snacks will be  included (
I will provide healthy  made from scratch food  for  the children everyday), as well a detailed curriculum outlines each week, periodic assessment of your child's development and photos  to document your child's experiences away from home.  The environment is safe, clean, friendly, and inviting!
There is a large indoor and outdoor play area full of toys to increase their thinking skills.
The toys I have are all educational crafts, puzzles, books, games, toys, etc. So even as the kids are playing, they are learning.
My goal is to provide a loving, happy, educational and safe environment for children.  I strive to enrich each child with a love of learning, positive self-image, and a sense of creativity and imagination.  I hope to create a nurturing environment to promote creativity!  I try to recognize teachable moments throughout a daily schedule. I incorporate music, art, and stories in a daily routine!
The first language spoken in our day care is Portuguese. We will bring and teach Brazilian culture without losing the American. Our goal is to teach both cultures showing the differences/commonalities between the two Countries. My Mom is a Portuguese teacher in Brasil and she is sending me a lot of materials so I can use here with the kids.
Our programs balance child-initiated and activities, nutritious meals, snacks, rest time and outdoor/indoor play.
